Missional Work at Holy Innocents
The reach of Holy Innocents extends beyond its doors. Parishioners engage in a number of outreach events throughout the year.
CHI parishioners often prepare and serve meals at the Holy Trinity soup kitchen in West Orange. Canned and packaged foods are also collected throughout the year and delivered to the food pantry at Holy Trinity Church. Food goods are also collected and delivered to the food pantry at St. Agnes Church in Little Falls.
At various times during the year CHI cooks meals for the local fire department. The anniversary of 9/11, and Thanksgiving are among the dates selected for serving the firemen.
Generally in early summer, one or more teenage or young adult parishioners join with members of other parishes to engage in work projects. In the summer of 2012 a young parishioner spent two weeks repairing roofs on a Navajo reservation. The experience was described as a life-changing event for the young woman.
The Christmas season is also a time for outreach. Food and warm clothing are gathered and distributed. A family in need is selected with the help of Holy Trinity Church and parishioners buy gifts for each family member. CHI also gives donations of infant supplies to North Porch, the diocesan center dedicated to help young families in need.
