Annual Parish Meeting – The CHI annual parish meeting is held in January to elect new Wardens and vestry members and to honor members whose terms have expired. Parishioners hear committee reports, vote on the proposed annual budget and conduct the general business of the church in accordance with the canons of the Episcopal diocese.
CHI Men Cook – A recent and very popular event at CHI is an evening in late winter or early spring
during which the men prepare meals for the congregation. The menu is varied and the chefs are talented. The funds raised from a modest entrance fee help pay for such necessary costs as repairs to the organ so as to maintain and preserve our spiritual home.
Spring Cleanup – In late April or early May the congregation gathers for the annual spring cleanup. Bushes are clipped, weeds are pulled, closets are organized, paint is applied as Holy Innocents emerges from the winter season.
Car Wash – Generally in May or early June one or more car wash fundraisers are held to raise money for a youth mission trip. The teens bring their school friends and even the smallest parishioners help wield their sponges.
Wine Tasting and Silent Auction – This event is the principal fundraiser of the year. A theme is chosen and the congregation donates items and solicits gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants. A portion of the proceeds is designated for CHI outreach projects.
Memorial Day – We celebrate our veterans with a procession from the church into the graveyard led by a bagpiper. Flags and pots of geraniums are placed at all the gravestones by our parishioners.
Fall Events – In mid September we hold a “Welcome Back” picnic after the Sunday service which coincides with the beginning of the Church School. Services in October and November include the annual Pet Blessing Sunday and the solemn reading of our Necrology.
Christmas Fair In late November or early December, a sale of Christmas items is held in the undercroft. The items often include collectibles along with a variety of Christmas gifts and decorations. More recently we have made Christmas wreaths and Christmas table decorations to sell in lieu of a Christmas Fair.
Other Events – Several TGIF nights are often scheduled throughout the year and may include games, literary or cinematic events, or educational demonstrations such as CPR training. Because we are such a diverse community, our parishioners have a wide variety of skills and knowledge which they are willing to share as a ministry of outreach.
Annual Concert Series – Given the success of the Caldwell Chorale in December, 2014, CHI is launching an annual concert series. We are anticipating three events during the 2015-2016 year beginning with a Christmas concert and sing along, then a Lenten musical event and finally in the spring, a solo concert.
